Guerrilla Showcases

Guerrilla (aka unofficial or private) showcases are a late-night feature of the conference that provides artists with additional performance opportunities. These showcases take place after official showcases, on Thursday through Saturday nights, starting at 10:40pm and running until 2am. For details, read the guidelines below.

If you’re interested in hosting a guerrilla showcase, submit your application between February 19 and March 19, 2023 You will be notified by March 23

 

Host Guidelines

  • Hosts are limited to two nights. The hosting fee is $35.00 per room, per night.

  • There’s a place on the host application to indicate if you plan to charge artists to perform. We prefer to have some showcases that do not charge performers.

  • If you’re selected to host, we’ll notify you by March 23.

  • If you host, you must be registered for the conference.

  • We hope you will announce the availability of your room via the SERFAfolk Google Group as well as directly contacting artists you’re interested in.

  • Your payment and performance schedules are due by April 15. We’ll provide you with a link to submit your schedule.

  • If you serve alcohol to showcase guests, please do so responsibly. You must ensure that those drinking are 21 or older.

  • Guerrilla showcases are acoustic only. If an artist requests amplification (e.g. for an electronic keyboard), please make sure the volume is consistent with acoustic instrumentation

  • At the end of each night, you are responsible for setting up and returning your room to its original configuration.

  • No candles are allowed in guerrilla rooms.

 

Artist Guidelines

Want to get in on the guerrilla showcase action? Subscribe to the SERFAfolk Google Group and watch for emails from hosts offering performance opportunities. A list of hosts is not made available; they are only published in the conference program.

Please do not accept more than three performance slots total, so that there are ample opportunities for others. to play and for you to hear them.

In addition:

  • If a host you're interested in posts to the Google Group, contact the host directly (off-list) -- and quickly -- these slots go fast!

  • You and any musicians in your group must be registered for the conference.

  • Guerrilla performances are acoustic; if you require amplification, please keep volume consistent with acoustic instrumentation .
