SERFA In Session: A Virtual Gathering
SERFA held its SERFA in Session: A Virtual Gathering from May 20 - May 22, 2021. The event featured several elements from past conferences, including a couple of events that went “virtual” — guerrilla showcases and an online exhibit hall.
The featured keynote speaker was Mary Gauthier, who shared her unique experiences connecting with front line doctors and nurses who worked in Covid units this past year and the upcoming release of her new book, Saved By a Song. More inspiration was offered in our Wisdom of the Elders panel hosted by Art Menius, who dipped into the wells of wisdom with Louisa Branscomb, William Ferris, and Ed Snodderly. And our awards recipients this year were Deidre McCalla, William Ferris, Ed Snodderly, Barry Poss, and David Holt. See the archive for videos and more.
SERFA 2022 - Wisdom Of The Elders
Wisdom of the Elders, Southeast Regional Folk Alliance's oral history segment, has become one of the most popular components of the SERFA conference. Art Menius leads a conversation with Sparky and Rhonda Rucker, Bill Clifton, and Deidra McCalla.
Thomm Jutz Keynote
Grammy-nominatedd Thomm Jutz will deliver the keynote address during the SERFA Conference May 12-15 in Black Mountain, NC. Jutz (it’s pronounced “Yootz”)) was a young, classically trained musician in Germany when he heard Outlaw legend Bobby Bare sing on a television show and decided to devote his life to informal music. He eventually moved to Nashville, where he found work touring with Nanci Griffith, Mary Gauthier, David Olney, Kim Richey, and many more. He built a recording studio and produced albums for Country Music Hall of Fame members Bill Anderson and Mac Wiseman, among many others.
